I just wanted to tell you again how much I love this cover. It strikes the perfect cord with me, plus it’s just eye catching and stunning. Much better than the first two traditionally pubbed books, IMO. And the website is perfect and exactly what I needed. Feeling incredibly blessed that I ran into you at that con – and thank you again for everything. —Kerry Schafer
What does the price include?
If you’ve been looking for a book cover design, you know the range for a full print cover tends to be around $650, and an ebook cover can be half that. You can get great quality work from 99designs for even less. And I’ll be honest, the price is not just a reflection of the quality of the design.
I know many amazing designers who are as good as we are, or better, who charge less.
Why would I admit that to you?
Because you need more than a book cover designer. You need someone who can help make your book successful. Average designers can make what you want, or make something that is clean and functional, but they probably won’t know what kind of covers are performing in your genre or field right now.
A good looking cover isn’t good enough.
You need the right cover-the one that converts the most viewers into buyers; the one that properly manages reader expectation to prevent the negative reviews that appear when the cover is attracting the wrong sort of people.
We charge more because our covers perform better.
They’ll remove buyer resistance and make it easier to get reviews. Your Amazon page will convert better leading to a higher sales rank.
Basically, everything you do to market your book will be easier, saving you a lot of time and effort.
See if you can find any other cover designers making the same claim.
***Bonuses***
Every client also gets my premium book formatting templates ($47) and my course on building a bestselling author platform ($197).
Don’t know what you need?
THE DALI ebook cover: lots of brainstorming, extended Photoshop, tediously cutting and blending pictures together to make a really unique cover design, and up to 5 images (i.e. a background, foreground and three characters). I’ll also edit any cover text, help brainstorm taglines or subtitles, and make you some images you can use for online promotion.
THE DAVINCI full print cover: includes the spine and back. I can add an ISBN barcode, author photo, imprint logo, or anything else you need. I can make covers for Lightning Source, Createspace, Lulu or any other printer, and even help with the upload process if you have any troubles or questions. The DaVinci includes the ebook version also, and the graphics for online promotion. I’ll even help edit/rewrite your all important back cover (sales) copy – which you’ll use on your Amazon page – and your author bio.
FORMATTING
I stopped offering book formatting, because it takes a long time, and I don’t enjoy it as much as designing covers; but there’s a list of people who can help on my resources page. I’ve also added some tutorials and free templates on www.diybookformats.com. It’s important to match the interior style with the cover – so after we finish the cover I can send your designer the fonts they’ll need to finish formatting.
Thank you for the perfect cover for Lowcountry Shrimp Boil! I enrolled it in Amazon Select and as part of the program it is free today and tomorrow. It is in the Best Selling Free eBook List! Here is the ranking listed below from Amazon: “This format of Lowcountry Shrimp Boil is currently ranked #392 of all free books in the Kindle Store.” That is 392 out of 1 million! Amazing. This would NEVER have happened without your beautiful eye-catching cover! I thank you and cannot wait to see what you do with my next cover.” —Laura Momot
The Ordering/Design Process
1. Once you click on the “Purchase” button of the cover type you want, you will be taken to PayPal to make a secure payment. I charge for the whole project upfront, only because I’ve found that having a two-step process (half now, half later) is cumbersome and inconvenient for everybody. Plus, I guarantee full refunds, so there’s no risk involved.
2. You’ll be redirected to a simple contact form where you can send me information about the book (title, subtitle, author’s name, blurbs, tagline, back copy text, author bio…). You don’t have to tell me everything right away; we’ll have time to get the details right, and I can help with anything you don’t understand.
3. I’ll generate several possible samples. If you like one, I’ll keep developing it until it’s just right. If you don’t like the first batch, I’ll keep looking for different ideas until we nail it. If you’re creating a paperback, after your book is formatted and has a final page count, we’ll continue working on the spine and back. All book cover text will be carefully edited and revised if necessary. I can design specifically for your printer (ie. Lulu, Amazon, Lightning Source, etc.) based on their templates, and even coordinate the cover with the book interior formatting.
4. I’ll send a final version of the cover, in JPG and/or PDF (let me know what you need, and I’ll do it), and some 3D images for online display. You can keep the Photoshop files if you want them. You get all the rights to the art. Revisions and changes are always free, even if needed months later.
“Derek: I wanted to thank you for creating two outstanding book covers for me. Both books are under review by a major book publisher and they have commented on the quality of the cover. Thank you very much for your hard work, diligence, quick response, and creativity!! You are the best of the best!” -John Mattone
Satisfaction Guaranteed
I HATE to take money for making ugly covers that won’t help you reach your publishing goals, and so I’ll be pretty blunt about my opinions and recommendations (after all, I really know what I’m doing – that’s what you’re paying me for). If you’re experiencing a lot of resistance from me, we may not be a good fit. If that’s the case, I’ll happily give you a refund and you can hire someone else to make you exactly what you want.
I’ll only keep your money if you’re thrilled with the design.
The Classic No-Risk Money Back Guarantee
If you don’t like any of my initial samples, I’ll keep trying. Usually with enough feedback, we’ll figure out what works for you. But if you aren’t confident about where we’re headed and you want to try someone else, you can have all your money back. It’s just that easy.
The Amazing 365-Day Excellence Warranty
As a small business owner, one of the things I can offer clients is attention to detail and a lavish amount of customer service. I’ve tried to price competitively, but I also understand the worries and concerns about paying for a book cover design. What if the cover doesn’t sell well, or attracts the wrong kind of reader? What if you change your mind later on? I know plenty of authors who have paid for 2 or 3 separate covers from different designers for the same book, and still don’t feel they’ve gotten it right.
I want your book to be successful, so here’s the deal: if within one year of buying a cover from me, you aren’t selling as much as you’d like and you think the cover is to blame, I’ll make you a new one for free. I’ll even help you identify what went wrong, and we’ll fix it.
Introducing a new designer…
I’m super busy finishing my PhD and writing some novels of my own; my friend and cover designer Dane Low has graciously agreed to help out with orders for awhile. I will still be involved, and all of my satisfaction guarantees still apply, but you’ll be communicating mostly with Dane. You can order using the “Add to Cart” buttons above and he will get back to you shortly.
PS) You’ve worked really hard on your book. Make sure your cover design does it justice.
I’m extremely sensitive to the financial limits of indie authors; publishing a book can be a huge investment. I’ve put a lot of time and effort into making tools and templates so that you can publish cheaper, and regularly post how-to articles, so you might want to join my list, or follow me on Twitter or Facebook.
