Derek Murphy has an MA in Harry Potter and a PhD in Paradise Lost; studied fine art in Florence and philosophy in Malta; and has been featured in CNN for running writing retreats in medieval castles. Derek changes countries every month, seeking out inspiration and adventure while exploring productivity hacks and motivational strategies to avoid procrastination and create work that matters (it’s a constant battle). He writes nonfiction books about creativity and young adult scifi and fantasy, and also helps authors writers with publishing and book marketing resources.

Publishing Updates
This blog is ancient, but I’m slow updating some of my platforms. I don’t do much book cover design any more, even though I still talk and write about it… so I’ve let this site dwindle even though some of my tools are really amazing.
I’ve been more focused on writing fiction, mostly urban fantasy and YA novels.
Making a living writing is difficult, but I feel like maybe I’m on the cusp, after writing about a dozen books in the last few years. One of the things that seems to be taking off, is my youtube channel of free fantasy audiobooks, so that gives me a little more confidence to persevere.
I hope to add some new blog content here at least, though the problem with having way too many platforms than I can possibly update is that I lose energy rewriting things again for every website.
